As an emergency disaster service, Mihalko’s General Contracting has helped hundreds of homeowners deal with devastating home disasters including broken pipes, water damage and fires. We watch as families try to recover from disasters such as these and start to bounce back as they discover what it is they need to make the recovery easier. Many would like to offer a helping hand, but are at a loss on what to do or what to give.  With our experience in such situations, however, we here at Mihalko’s General Contracting have created a list to help you help your friends and family.

How To Help In A Disaster

  1. Send a check – Or gift card. Sometimes it takes time for the insurance company to send money to help homeowners with basic expenses such a groceries and a place to stay.

  1. Clothing – Usually disasters leave families without basic necessities including clothing, toiletries or home items. Household basics are always needed.

  1. Food – Deliver a home cooked meal or bring groceries. One could also host dinner at their home in order to give the family much needed comfort. Unfortunate situations tend to be even harder to deal with on an empty stomach.

  1. Focus on children – If there are children involved in a disaster, consider taking them out to a local gaming restaurant or movie. It’s important to keep things as smooth and simple as possible for children experiencing a loss.

No one plans on experiencing a disaster, but when they do, there are steps you can take to ensure you are able to do your part in helping out. And when the disaster has finally settled and it comes time to rebuilding a life, call someone you can trust. Call a family company that has been serving its neighbors in the Johnstown PA, Latrobe PA and Altoona PA area for over 34 years. Call Mihalko’s General Contracting. We’ll help get you back on your feet and ready to go in no time.
