pipes-winterize

The winter can be a long and dreary time. Stuck at home all day and night, it’s common for a cold-weather-cabin-fever to kick in. And when it does, what can you do? Well, as a home remodeling contractor, we here at Mihalko’s General Contracting know winter can be a tough time to start thinking long term about the average cost of a bathroom remodel or how you’ll budget remodeling come this spring. That’s why we’ve created a list of short term home projects any homeowner can tackle in one winter weekend.

Weekend Projects

  1. Wash Your Windows. Dust can accumulate in places that you wouldn’t even think of. Wash your windows and, while you’re at it, wash the window pane and the ledge above your window, too. A nice once or twice over can make those windows look as good as new.

  1. Furnace Filter. Replace your furnace filter and buy a years worth of filters during the process. Ideally, a filter should be changed every 3 months. Stocking up ahead of time is a great way to ensure clean air while minimizing allergens and dust in the air.

  1. Insulate Your Pipes. Take it from a fire and water restoration company,  water damage can cause some serious wreckage amongst your home and your belongings. A proactive approach, such as insulating your pipes, will save you in the long run from unwanted frozen and busted pipes.

The winter can feel long and dragged out. With the dull colors and consistent chill, it’s an easy time for cabin fever to kick in.
