Inspect Ya' Deck

It’s a longstanding tradition in America to enjoy the pleasures of the Spring season by lounging on your deck. But after 20 or so years of lounging on the same deck, the one that’s experienced firsthand the weather you’ve comfortably avoided from the inside of your home, how safe can it be? The answer: Not safe at all! Lucky for you, May is the official Deck Safety Month.

Whether it be a rotting wooden infrastructure or a poor electrical wiring job, there are many reasons why it’s necessary for one to perform an annual May deck inspection. Between the year 2000 and 2008 alone, there were over 30 deaths due to deck inspection failure. Additionally, over 75% of people on decks when they collapse are severely injured or killed, and with over 40 million decks in America, most of which are 20 years or older, the numbers are only increasing.

Fortunately, in recent years the North American Deck & Railing Association (NADRA) has created a standard for which decks should meet. And when you call a top contractor like Mihalko’s who has been serving the Johnstown, PA, Latrobe, PA, and Altoona, PA, areas for over 34 years, you can make sure that your deck is being inspected by the best and will be safe and ready to use in no time!
